2m Glass Mount Antenna Reply
by KC7DJI on September 23, 2002 Mail this to a friend!
I just purchased a mobile radio for my truck. I'm looking for a good antenna. Are the glass mount antennas any good? If not, what is good? I'm looking for a mag mount I guess?

One assumes you are talking about VHF/UHF antennas??

Glass mounts work passibly for the average ham. Loaded 5/8 waves work better in most cases, if they are permanently mounted (not mag mounted).

There are companies which make stake-hole mounts which a lot of folks swear by, and they do allow driving into the average garage easier, but they do skew the pattern some.

There are so many different companies making VHF/UHF today, it is hard to even suggest which to use. The review forum is a good place to start, however. Depending upon the rig you are using, you might look at a combo (2M - 440).
