What is a late serial number for this radio? Has anyone purchased one from a retailer lately? Looking at buying a used one from someone and wondering it's a later model.

Steve,
I bought a new 746 Pro in January 2008 from Ham Radio Outlet. The s/n on mine is 0207XXX. Of course I have no way of knowing how long it may have been in stock before being shipped to me, but I suspect since HRO sells quite a bit of gear, the stock rotates frequently. I've experienced no problems with mine.

Thanks very much for the email. Looks like the 746 is my next rig. My TS-930s recently gave up on me. I like the older stuff better but the newer stuff seems more reliable.

i am sorry to hear your 930 gave up. i have one with the 5million ser #. this is when kw did major updates on the 930s. my friend, a radio technician, sprayed my sticky vfo w/ radioshack lubricant and now it is too erratic to use. i have to use the up/down buttons on the mic to change freqs. i am either going to sell it or buy another 930 to replace the sticky vfo. my brother has a 746 pro. i have a pair of 756 pros. one is for sale. the 756pro outshines the 746 pro hands down. some 746 pros had problems, some didnt. none of the 756 pros had problems, but the 756 did. regards, fred kj4dkt

I got rid of the 930 as it would have been costly to trace the problem. How much are you asking for one of the 756Pro's?

I just bought a brand new IC-746Pro without the PS-125 from my local Icom dealer for $875.00 Canadian Dollars. Icom discontinued the radio this month and I guess most dealers are liquidating their stock. I like the radio so far, even though it takes a lot of reading to use it properly.
