I have a VF0 230 that is stuck on one frequency of 6.100 mhz and when attached to the TS830 in VF0 mode the frequency read out on the TS830 is 4.100 mhz if you are in the 80m band and thus the same shift on any other band . That is the VF0 frequency is fixed and yet the VF0 lock is off . The Lock and all other functions work fine. At this time its a fixed FO 230 comng up on the wrong frequency . Thats the simplest way of describing the fault . Any suggestions . Regards David ZL1GQ

The VFO 230's have a habit of getting stuck. Usually just unplug the AC cord to the 230 wait a few seconds and plug it back in. This will usually cure the problem until the next time it sticks.
Of course you could have a more complicated problem.
Since a remote VFO is required for split frequency operation a VFO 240 might be a better solution as it has a simple non-digital VFO circuit. It doesn't have the resolution of the 230 but if you use it for your transmitted frequency and the main tuning for receive, it doesn't much matter.
I have both VFO's and either will work. The VFO 230 is a bit better for CW tuning.

Tks for your interest . I am familiar with what you say as I have my original VF0230 attached to my 830 and have had to switch both off and on after power cuts we get here . I feel its something a little more complicated as you suggest . If I listen on a separate RX to this VF0 output at 6.100 mhz its not moving in frequency with the turning of the dial yet the dial numbers move corectly . I have compared it with my own . Mine VFO's as it should from 6.100 down to 5.400 mhz . The VF0 is trying move in freq but only a few cycles . .....David

Well the next step is to get a copy of the service manual for the TS-830 and go to the alignment section for the VFO 230. While the procedure is a bit complicated and you will need an oscillscope, it isn't too onerous a deal.
You can find the service manual on line probably at DK/mods or some other site.
Good Luck
