Good question!

I have just ordered a Bitx20 kit from Doug Hendricks, and have looked a bit at enclosures. I had a look at the qrpkits online manual (great construction manual!) to see if I could find the size.

Until I have the board to measure, the best suggestion I have is to compare the size of the board to the size of the Dig Dial (given as 1.1" x 2.1" - about 53mm). If you compare that to the board as installed in a pic in the manual, I estimate about 130mm for the board width.

Hope that helps some.

(I just got my Standard - General to you guys- licence - and am looking forward to receiving the kit. I just didn't want to go out and buy a whole lot of black plastic radio gear. To me that is not what the hobby is about).

What is available, and what do others use, as a mike for the Bitx20?

Originally tried an ex-CB fist mic as I believe plenty of constructors did I use a PC computer desk mic (Technika... cost couple £/AUS$ in computer shop). Use it with the MKARS-80m ssb rig too.

Thanks Dom.

I will have a lot of work to do as well as the transceiver. Have to build power supply, antenna etc.

I've seen some info on the MKARS-80 rig, looks pretty good too.

Though something for the 40 meter band first makes sense (don't know what 40m is like where you are, but in Oz it has a lot of old blokes talking about their medical problems). As a Std (Gen) call I don't have 30, 17, 12m privileges - good incentive to sit for my Advanced licence.

Phil:

I have had spectacular success, 12+ watts out,
clean signal on a scope and on the air, using the:

Cobra HG-M75 4-Pin CB 2 Transistor Mic w/Gain available just about anywhere CB stuff is sold retail and EVEYWHER it is sold on the Interweb!

It has a two transistor amp powered with a 9v "on board" (inside mic) battery and adjustable gain pot
on the mic. I got mine for only $15.xx w/shipping
somewhere on the net and it is a very well
made mic. Were it not for the 4 pin connector
you couldn't tell it was a CB mic. IN USA you can get it at FRYE's Electronics.

Send me a note to my email and I will forward you the mic pinout and hookup instructions for the BITX20A.
Just replace a few resistors in the mic (really easy stuff) and you will LOVE THE WAY IT SOUNDS ON THE AIR.
Just leave it set between #4 and 5 on the rotary scale of 0-9. Your mileage may vary. Works as a GREAT RF Output control too!!

This is not a hack job. For you technical types, mic amp schematics AND hi res photos are included in this 7 page file. You DONT need to be a technical Type to hook up the mic, either, hihi!!

Sorry, dont know how it works on the MKARS80 yet. I am building that rig now too, and boy howdy, would LOVE it to work in the same manner.

Send me a note.

"Can anyone tell me what the dimensions of the case for the Bitx20a qrp ssb transceiver are (W x L x D). "

The case? The Hendricks BOARD is exactly 3.5 x 5.5 inches.

I'm using the LMB Collins-look cabinet. It's (W x L x H) 5.5 x 7.5 x 3.5 inches.

It's really pricey $49.65 but I got it for five bucks at a hamfest. It'll be a teeny KWM-2.

The Hendricks case, overall, is 6"W x 2 3/8"H x 5 1/8"D. The upper half of the clamshell case overhangs, front and rear, lower half. The lower half is 5 7/8"W x 2 5/16"H x 4 3/4"D.

The LMB Heeger cases are very cool. I've settled on these cases from Circuit Specialists; they're very nice and less expensive.

Hope you all do well with your BitX
