Hello again.
I know that comparing the Argonaut 516 to a factory built OHR 100A is like comparing apples to watermelons due to their diversity of features and price, but here goes anyway:
For working one band, say 30M, QRP with emphasis for their comparison being their ability to receive and transmit on CW only, how do they compare?
Thanks,
Kent (K8QLW)

Perhaps I should have asked how the OHR-100A compares to any other tranceiver for working one band QRP with criteria for their comparison being their ability to receive and transmit on CW only?
I posted this question because, while I had read the reviews, I had seen no compoarison between the Argonaut 516 and the OHR-100A.
Thanks,
Kent (K8QLW)

I never owned an OHR 100, but I did own a 516, and presently own an OHR-500.
I was never really impressed with the 516, so I sold it.
The OHR-500 has a very good receiver, and the QSK will match anything you can buy. It's only drawback, is the analog tuning. I solved that by building a Hendricks digial readout into the case.
I also have an Elecraft KX1 which is also very nice.

I have both a Argonaut V and an OHR100a.
On TX the Argonaut V will put out 20W which when compared to the 5W that the OHR100A puts out is only +6db which equates to only
1 S-unit stronger that the OHR100a.
So in theory, with all other factors being equal, you should be able to work just about anything with the OHR100a that you can work with the Argonaut V.
The receiver on the Argonaut V is much more sophisticated than the
100a and IMHO the variable IF DSP filter works very well on this rig, but the 100a has a surprisingly sensitive and quiet receiver. I would say that for casual operating you won't notice a lot of difference but for something like contesting the Argonaut V would win out.
I have always been impressed with the performance of the OHR rigs and I would recommend the 100a if you are looking for a decent performing single band QRP CW rig.
For the price, I think that the Argonaut V is a very capable CW rig.
It is too bad that Ten-Tec no longer makes it. I certainly will never
part with mine.
I hope that this helps.

I have had both. The OHR is the better rig FOR SINGLE BAND. Cost of the OHR makes it a great choice.
Rcvr was great -- selective enough, quiet, sensitive. Xmt was great -- clean sig with great break in. I used a Pico keyer and Vibroplex Warrior (their mini paddles) and had a first class rig by any standards. Analog dial was fine -- calibrated it so 7030 was one of the marks and usually stuck there +/- a little anyway. Didn't change at all with time or temperature. Simplicity of operation was wonderful. Battery life was wonderful. Size/weight were wonderful. I don't do QRP too often but it didn't break my heart or bank to let it sit idle at that price; like an infrequently used more expensive rig would.
However; I enjoy both 40 and 30 and will be on there plus 15 and 10 when the bands open. I also like SSB from the camper or picnic table portable. So the OHR has a new home and the TenTec is my travel choice. True; it's more $$ on the shelf when not in use -- but it's more fun when it is.

Thanks much gentlemen for all the info.
I had "Zeroed IN" on a OHR-100A when a kind gentleman made me an offer I couldn't refuse on an Agronaut 516.
I have a PAR EF-30 antenna on order, and now I need to upgrade from 100' of RG-58 to 70' of Bury-Flex. That should help.
