I am looking for a new 5.1 or 7.1 receiver. Does any one have one they can recommend that is well shielded (immune to HF RFI?)
The receiver I have now, a Yamaha HTR-5460 does a poor job. I talked with an engineer at Yamaha and he so much admitted that the 5460 does a poor job of HF rejection.
So I am looking for suggestions for a new receiver.
Thanks,
Paul, W3GQ

We have a couple, and I don't bother either of them even at legal limit power on HF or six meters.
In the family room, closest to my hamshack, is the SONY HT-DDW665 setup which is 500W or something and uses six speakers (five for surround sound, and one bass subwoofer). I opted for the fibre optic cable interconnections to the DVD system, etc. Figured without any copper in these, they'd probably be less annoyed by RFI.
Don't know if that's the reason or not, but it doesn't matter what I do, at 1500W on any frequency, I don't bother it a bit.

I second the notion of fibre optic cable interconnections... I have those on a Kenwood surround system and have no problems. The only issue I have is with my powered subwoofer. Crazy thing is senstitive to just about anything from 7Mhz to 450 Mhz. It's an infinity powered sub!

Have you eliminated the typical sources of RFI around the house, i.e. poorly decoupled antennas like verticals, rf coupling into the AC line or CATV system, etc. that may be unduly influencing the problem?
Hate to see you chuck a receiver you otherwise like, then find out you have a problem on the transmit end of things or a general filtering requirement that could affect any surround receiver.

I use a recently purchased Yamaha 5835 5.1 system. I tend to agree to maybe try and isolate your RF issue before spending more money to find the same result.
I dont have any problems at all operating on all bands with numerous radios and antennas here and the Yamaha system. I do confess I am a Yamaha fan since I also own a Yamaha 2005 1100cc bike!
I have been dealing with RF issues here with my HF station recently. I found for example a rear yard mounted floodlight,a bad audio cable on my computer used for rig control even a poorly mechanically designed HF vertical were causes.I finally excelt for some really low level computer noises due to mouse movement, hard drive access etc I have finally met with success.
I even found an issue with a silly ground loop between a connection for my 220 amp outlet and 110 volt outlets for the radio etc.
I think at this point I can consider myself an expert on this subject.
If I can help let me know.
