I have a 50" Samsung plasma about 12 feet from my shack...I have no issues whatsoever,I hear a lot of complaints about RF issues with the plasma TV's,but I guess I'm fortunate,no problems here.

Our 42 inch Pioneer Plasma Elite pretty much wipes out the HF bands too.

Our primary antenna is 65 feet above and 30 feet away from the tv equipment. The other is lower and farther yet away from the house, but it picks up just as much interference. The actual radios (transceiver and communications receiver) are about 20 feet from the monitor as the crow flies.

I have tried all manner of chokes, beads, and filters. Nothing helps. Tonight I disconnected the dish antenna lead (with the monitor on) and the hash continued unabated. Turned the monitor off and all is quiet.

It sure appears to be coming from the monitor, but I don't know what to do about it either.

I'm having the same issue as described here. The RFI from my (Pioneer plasma) causes a S4/5 signal but it's very loud (Hammer drill like). Tried the beads but that didn't help. Any other suggestions from anyone?

I wish I had known about this before recently buying a 50 inch Panasonic plasma. I have S9 RF hash 80 through 10, even after removing all connectors to the TV and turning everything else in the home theater off and disconnecting speaker leads, etc. I use a roof-mounted R8 that is pretty much directly over the TV. I am going to try to take the TV back and swap it for an LCD. I can't imagine this TV is compliant with FCC regulations regarding RF emmissions.

The plasma TV Pioneer type 436 FDE of my neighbours is causing here S9+ QRM on the HF bands. As long as it is the only one in the neighbourhood I can cancel this QRM using two receiving antennas. But I can not forbid my neighbours in the street to buy plasma TVs!!
So in PA-land plasma TV is also a problem for shortwave reception.
Sony also knows how to cause QRM, but thats another story ....

I have three Pioneer Elites and they all generate hash on 160M-75/80 bands. Nothing higher. Makes those bands totally unusable unless TV sets are OFF.

Did anyone ever get Pioneer to fix this problem? This violates Part 15 of the FCC rules, which Pioneer is suppose to comply with.

I received an email from Pioneer today telling me how wonderful their plasmas are. I agree except for the RFI, which I have lived with despite the problem. In response to their email, I emailed them describing my RFI problem and asked about a fix. I'll report on their response - if any.

I also sent a reply to Pioneer customer service after receiving my ad from them today. I am sure glad my wife would rather listen to music than watch tv so I can get on the air when she is home. The Elite even wipes out the bands on my mobile parked in front of the house. When my neighbors comment on the beautiful picture on the plasma, I won't tell them what brand/model it is in fear they will buy one!

RE: Pioneer Plasma TV and Philips! Reply

I just recently discovered the source of my 10 over hash. Our beautiful new Philips 42" plasma television. Although I never thought a TV picture could look so great, it makes DX chasing during prime time a thing of the past in my house. The guys over at DX Engineering said they have no remedy for this issue. They had the same problem when they installed a Panasonic plasma in their offices. I have a huge spike at 3,560khz. Some say it's the color burst freq. some say it isn't. I can stand in the hall outside my radio room where I can also see the TV and as the image changes on the TV so does the noise on my radio. Well, there's one way my wife can get me out of the radio room and on the couch with her watching dumb stuff like Deal or No Deal. All I can say is, "No Deal!" DXing now takes place in the wee hours of the morning when my neighbors are also asleep.
