Here's a 30 second clip I just made:
http://ac8rc.org/ac8rc/audio/20m_rfi.mp3
I made this recording on 14.260Mhz, where supposedly 9L1X is transmitting. It's about S-7 there.
I can hear it from 13-18 MHz right now, 1845Z, 11 OCT 2008.
I can hear it strongest from my shack with my Cobra Ultralite Sr antenna at about 30 feet. I can also hear it from my mobile rig in the driveway.
This noise is very common for me. Sometimes I can hear it all the way up to 6m, sometimes as far down as 40m. Most of the time 10m is wiped out by it.
Seems to vary in strength, possibly with atmospheric conditions.
The frequency of the pulse is quite stable.
I can't hear it with my HT at all, or I'd try to radio-locate.
I've turned off the main breaker to my house and still hear it.
Anyone heard anything like this before? Power lines or something?
Thanks,
Pete W8BUX

It's got a nice beat, I think I can write music and lyrics to that.

Actually, you have two separate and intermixing signals, albeit they may be the same source. I suggest you look at them on an O-scope.

Hi Pete,
This sounds exactly like the same RFI pulse noise I received from a Black & Decker Firestorm Fast Charger for my 18 volt cordless drill. It only does it when the battery is on the charger to complete the circuit.Good luck and 73!

This sound is likely some type of charging device. Also could be a router or network switch.

Finally! It was an old TV on the third floor. Not on, just plugged in and connected to cable.

Ouch. That was making quite an ugly sound. Glad you located the source and resolved the problem!
