I'm installing a Yagi system with a Yaesu 5500 rotator.
My local situation requires I mount the antenna on the north side of the house and immediately against it. So I expect I'll have to erect a mast to see above the roof line. I can't go too high to avoid visibility from the street on the south side of the house.
Practically speaking, do I need to see much lower than about 10 to 20 degrees above the east, south, and west horizons?
Also, my north horizon is occluded by nearby 70-foot pine trees. Will they severely limit my sat. communication?
Thanks for any comments.

Less than 10 not a problem. Between 10 and 20 could be but you have to work with what you have.

No. Some attenuation during the summer when they are filled with water but much less during the winter.
