Wouxun KG-UVD1 vs Yaesu VX-7R

I need to make a choice between a (new) Wouxun KG-UVD1 (dual band) and a (used) Yaesu VX-7R for satellite use.
I have other Yaesu equipment, which I am very happy with. I know the VX-7R has more bands and features than the KG-UVD1. I would prefer to get the VX-7R.
Any advice?
Thank you.

I just go a Wouxun not too long ago. I love mine! I also Own the Yaesu VX8r. the Wouxun I got was suppose to be my back up HT radio. In the end it has kind of taken over as my main HT. Because the Wouxun I got came with the programing cable i can quickly load in all the repeaters in any area i work in via computer. Another feature I like is that I can buy all the accessories for this HT really cheap! A 1700mha battery only costs $17! the speaker mic only $9!
The Wouxun doesn't have Dual VFO's! That is the only feature I miss! If you are in an area that you may loss or break you HT then losing the Wouxun is not a big loss compared to losing the Yaesu. Then again If i do lose my wouxun I have it all backed up on the computer!
any ways who uses the 220mhz and 50mhz on their HT? You would have to be pretty close to a repeater to make use of those bands!
440 and 2 meter repeaters are plenty!
well that is my two cents!
good luck with your radio purchase! because in the end either radio is a great choice!

If I were you, I'd check with the ICASA to make sure that it would be legal for you to (a) import one and (b) use one of the Wouxon units in your country.

are these available localy to purchase? here in the USA they are ordered from hong kong via ebay, the legality of these radios for use in the usa is in question.
i would like to hear more impressions from users of these radios, how they work with repeaters, do you find them easy to use, about the computer programing, and transmission ability as well as durability of these units.

>> ... are these available localy to purchase?
They are available all over the Internet.
>> ... are ordered from hong kong via ebay, the legality of these radios for use in the usa is in question ...
Absolutely WRONG. The legality is NOT in question in ANY manner. They have NOT been submitted to the FCC for certifiiation (per my conversation WITH the manufacturer last week), and are ILLEGAL to use in the United States - on ham or commercial frequencies.
>> ... i would like to hear more impressions ...
They are pieces of fecal matter from the Chinese.
Any opinion that differs with that statement is either (a) ignorant or (b) unknowing of what quality ham equipment is all about. Period.
Now, then - would you like to tell us what you need from a ham handheld transceiver - so that we can make intelligent recommendations to you?

the original post was from a gentleman in south africa, as far as i know fcc approval has no bearing on radios sold in south africa, i have no idea as to the availability of these radios locally in south africa, i dont own one and am not planning to own one.
sheesh,

And the original poster WAS advised to check with HIS government's telecommunications department. Then a subsequent question came from a US poster, I thought.

The VX-7R is a great little HT ... How are you mounting the AL-800 on it? I usually do not recommend that combination, due to how heavy/massive the AL-800 is, and the stress its weight transfers to the HT's SMA connector.

i have obtained one of the rubber reinforced sma to bnc adapters from STEPHEN G. GULYAS, it has made a lot of difference when mounting the Pryme Radio Products AL-800 Telescoping HT Antenna. i try to move the antenna slowly and have not had a lot of play in the antenna radio connection. but this might just lead me to trying to put together one of the home made yagi antennas and connecting it via coax to the HT. i have not figured out the doppler effect management yet, my contacts are fairly short, although i have gotten two QSO's over the past couple of tries, i do have to wait until the satellite is almost overhead to get a response. i am certainly open to suggestions on what how and why.
i keep trying to refine my ability, and to learn effective techniques that will help me maximize my equipment, i look at this as the roots of amateur radio, it is about patience, mentoring, learning.
just starting out in satellite and amateur radio
