Hi all
I have just been reading up about a suggested secret US satellite (Orion) with a dish as big as a football field.
http://www.airspacemag.com/space-exploration/Secret-Space-Shuttles.html?c=y&page=3
I am well aware that some readers have done moonbounce but I wonder whether anyone has had any luck bouncing a signal off this satellite. the satellite is parked in geosynchronous orbit so it would not be hard to find. Just track one's antenna across the sky along the line of geosynchronous orbits and the secret one is the highly refelective one that is not supposed to be there.
This could be a useful new method of international vhf/uhf communicaation. And a lot cheaper than launching ham sats.
Regards

Here's someone *using* the satellites, not bouncing signals off of them - http://www.boingboing.net/2009/04/19/brazil-cracks-down-o.html
I recently read of a USA ham that was receiving signals bounced off of non-geosynchronous satellites using something like a 200 Mhz continuous-carrier signal. Will post a link once I relocate the article...
Keep the good thoughts and ideas flowing! That's a very large part of what being a ham is all about!

If it is "bouncing", have at it. If it involves using the transverters in the thing I would suggest you might get a visit from those who cast no shadows.
Lives may depend on it working right.

As part of the system the US military uses to track objects in space, there is a series of transmitters and receivers across the southern part of the continental USA - roughly along 33 degrees North. Three sites transmit on frequencies just below 217 MHz, and 6 other sites have receivers. Wikipedia has an article about this system:

The Gila River transmitter site is not far from me, south of the Phoenix area. Even with that, I have never gone out there with a receiver to see what I can pick up on its frequency. You can see the site as you drive along Arizona route 347 toward the town of Maricopa.
