As far as I know, NO. I use a FT-7800R for my mobile and it only displays one band. The FT-8800R displays two bands together. Same bands, same mode, Just dig deeper into your wallet.

How many people actually do this? I have a Kenwood F6A with the two modes that I never use. I always use one or the other. I decided on the FT-7800R because of that.

If you want to monitor two frequencies on your FT-7800R then use the priority feature. For receive only applications this works great. There are several options on priority monitoring. For example) I will monitor 146.52 simplex as the displayed frequency, then have my local club repeater on the background priority channel. The ft-7800 is a nice rig. I have one in my truck and soon will replace my single band FT-2800 in the house with one as well.

I'm considering the FT-7800R as a first mobile rig (much less expensive than ICOM 208H) and the FT-7900 does not have the WX alert feature, but is about $30 more. My question is on the 5 band selection. While I can understand the 250Mhz band probably covers 220 amatuer I can't imagine what I would use the 350Mhz band for? Looks like military and I'll probably never use that (seems like a waste). If anyone knows any other activity in 350Mhz band or knows the range that band covers in the radio (not in manual from what I can find) I would appreciate the info.

The radio to have is the Yaesu FT 8800. Which CAN monitor two frequencies at the same time. Plus cross band repeat. The 8800 is actually like two radios in one box.
The 7800 is ONE radio, So can only monitor ONE band or frequency at a time.

You can program in the frequencies you want to cover and then the radio will scan through both the 2 meter and 400 frequencies.
We have our RACES radio set that way.

O.K., technically the 7900 is out now. However, I felt a need to add a comment. I have my freqs in channel banks via the ADMS software. I keep our local ham freqs in channel 1; public safety in 2; regional in 3, etc. I use the check boxes to select how many banks I want a freq to show up in. For example, I keep our main VHF repeater in the public safety scan, plus the simplex VHF/UHF freqs are attached to every bank. It's simply a matter of stopping the scan when the radio stops on that channel. If it's a ham channel, the tx works fine.
