Does anybody have any information about 2 and 6 meter SSB and CW activity for those of us in the Northern NJ area.

Any special frequencies, times of day and etc.???

I used to drive through EPA and NJ from the DC area once in a while. I usually found 2m FM simplex activity around 146.55. I also know that the Packrats have nets in Eastern PA you may want to check out. Not sure of their URL though.

Hello James,

You want to start with listening on the call frequencies.
They are as follows:

6m - 50.111-51.100 PH
6m - 50.125 (Call frequency only)
6m - 50.000 - 50.100 CW
6m - DX Window 50.100 - 50.110 (To be used only if DX is heard, or to call CQDX. Not to rag chew with state side)

-------------------------------------------------------

2m - 144.000 - 144.100 CW,EME (Earth-Moon-Earth) Moon Bounce

2m - 144.100 - 144.265. PH/CW
2m - 144.140 - Meteor Scatter
2m - 144.200 - (Call Frequency Only) PH

All though you will not work much DX on these bands they are great in general when you understand how they work and what you will need. It is not anything like working F1-F2 propagation.

To work DX 6 meters will be your best chance and not impossible for 2 meters but will require certain antenna systems and modes.

Have fun!

Eric

Listen for 2 meter net activity starting with the PacRat Society. They meet every Monday night. Listen Monday nights between 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm. There you can ask questions. Frequency between 144.150 - 144.155 USB of course. Everything on weak signal work is done on USB (PH), CW, or digital.

The Pack Rats net is actually 50.145 MHz USB at 7:30 PM local time Monday nights, and then 145.150 MHz USB at 8:00 local time Monday nights, and progresses up the bands to 1296 and 903 MHz at 9:30 PM and 10:00 PM respectively.

It's impossible to "miss" the nets, or the big signals coming from the net control stations.

Good way to "get your feet wet" on 6m and 2m SSB, for sure.

I am semi-active on 2 and 6 SSB/CW here in NNJ. I mostly get on during contests or other interesting events (meteor scatter during showers, etc). I've found 6 to be a little easier to find people on randomly than 2. There are a few who listen alot on the 6m CW frequencies as I've had many nice QSO's.

Best 73,

I will also be on 6 and 2 as soon as the new antenna system is up in the air for fall and winter use.
I can hear all over NJ, CONN, NY state from my location.
I sent you an E-Mail for a sked if you wish to do so.
I still have my 2m beam up as temp use.
