I live in a county where there are more important things than 2 meters.
With that said, We have a 440 repeater in my county, and Id like to see a 6 meter repeater go up. One of the guys in the local club has started scraping together parts. But until he can get it put together (might be a month or 2), I was thinking of using my spare Alinco dr06t, and using a signal link sound card interface and Echo Station to make a 6 meter simplex repeater/ club announcement station.
I did some googling, but havent found anyone else with a 6 meter simplex repeater on the air.
I guess I was just looking for some input and thoughts.

It's not illegal, it just needs (to be within Part 97 requirements) an identifier and a timeout timer to be sure it cannot "hang up" in the TX mode without control. If it's "locally controlled," e.g., you're right there alongside the repeater to always maintain control over it manually, then you don't need that requirement, either.
"Simplex" repeaters which digitally record the input signal and play it back later are obviously of very limited utility and don't work well for rag-chewing or 3-4-5 way conversations, etc. But as a "club bulletin announcement" machine or something, seems it would work just fine.

Something else to consider doing is CROSS BAND repeat operation.
Just get something like a Kenwood TS 2000, Or a Yaesu FT8900 and you can cross band repeat UHF or VHF over to 6 meters and vice-versa. Simple and easy.
While still not as user friendly as an in-band duplex repeater, Crossband works lots better and is more user friendly than a simplex repeater.
As already pointed out, As long as it is at someone's home and they can get to it within 10 or so minutes to shut it off if something goes wrong, It can be considered local control so no special controller needed.

A quick easy simplex repeater can be set up using the argent data ad-sr1. I bought the small interphase for 89 bucks new, hooked it up to a ht and made a few adjustments and presto simplex repeater. You can do numerous functions and is programmable from any radio with a keypad. Check it out at argentdata.com. Support is also very good from Scott the owner. Its also very good for a emergency repeater when needed...73, Alan
