Hmm... not the best at explaining this but let me give it a try. From your post you said you wanted to talk to your staff. HAM radio is a licensed operation to any person who passes the test. one of the rules that we must know is that it cannot be used for money making purposes (some word lie pecunary or something i dont know how to spell it!). that would be left to FRS or GMRS radios, not ham. you can talk to them on the radio but on ham you cannot run a business with it or make sales (Unless its your own gear or something that you want to swap or trade or sell) so judging by your post it would be for communications with your staff, which to the best of my knowldge would not be legal. But if its for your personal enjoyment welcome to the hobby! Mabye somone else here can better explain what I am trying to say but hopefully I got the message accross.
GOod luck!

You are not going to get 50 miles out of an HT without a repeater.
From your brief description, you need a commercial service such as GMRS or a leased system and not amateur radio.
Look in your phone book under communications system for help is deciding what meets your needs.
