Nortons Law & Jackie Gleason Show Reply

Few people realize Ed Norton developed the idea of the Equivalent Duality comedy routine with Jackie Gleason, many years before during the time he was a member of his local radio amateur club.
At that time Ed Norton had just started with Public Works in the sewer biz,and through a warp of time and space, he worked closely with Kirchhoff and Thevenin.
Ed was eager to develop an equivalent duality between himself and the older Thevenin, in order to provide a study aid for youngsters wishing to qualify for the Novice and General FCC ham exams.
The idea of using the dual equivalency comedy routine with Jackie Gleason occurred much later to Norton when he decided to quit his job in the sewer biz in order to go into show biz.
The answer to the question is actually "yes."
Thevenin's ideas and Norton's idea are actually duality equivalent.
This is explained in the ARRL booklet, "Hands-On Radio Experiments" by N0AX, a compilation of H. Ward Silver's recent articles in QST.
The Equivalent Duality concept means that electrical behavior can be defined in terms of current or voltage.
Other dual quantities include resistance and conductance, impedance and admitance, series and parallel, and mode and mesh. (Page 10 the Fundamentals).
These concepts apply to solid state, tubes, and hybrids, equally.

Makes no sense to me either. Perhaps it's a case of PWI (Posting While Intoxicated)???

This circuit analysis is very much part of ham radio today, and it included as part of the fundamentals in every ARRL Handbook in recent years, around chapter 4 or 5.
Although years ago Norton and equivalence was not mentioned in the handbook.
Times change.

Is there a question in there somewhere? Is there something you need help with, other than the obvious?

My mother was well read, being an English major. There were a lot of things she liked about literature, and two of those were; double entendre conundrums, and ages-old adages. The one that fits here (I think she'd agree); Fool's names and fool's faces, often appear in public places.

Add yours to the HFRF list.

The first rule about Ed Norton is that you do not talk about Ed Norton.
