For a few years, I used an attic dipole about 45ft long fed with twinlead from the basement to the second floor attic. I got excellent reports and worked anything I could hear. Too many hams live in the "theoretical". If you can't put up an outside antenna, try the attic. You may be very surprised. Just try it. IF I listened to all the theory crap I have heard in ham circles (especially about antennas) I would have been out of this hobby decades ago.
