DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLEAR DIAGRAM OF THE PC BOARD CONTAINING THE D-18 DIODE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE CLIPPED FOR THIS MOD?? THE DOWNLOADABLE VERSION FROM ICOM IS IMPOSSIBLE TO READ, AND DESPITE THREE E MAILS, TWO CALLS, AND TWO LETTERS TO THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE, I HAVE RECEIVED NOTHING FROM THEM. MY PW-1 IS AN EARLIER S/N (1087). I HAVE HEARD THERE IS A NON-ICOM WEBSITE THAT HAS A LOT OF INFO ON ICOM MODS...ANYBODY KN9OW WHAT THE URL IS??? THANKS

Well I was wondering if someone else experienced the same problem with the lousy picture that is going around. I think this is what you are looking for. The Icom PW1 Service Manual... The file size is 4.17Meg but worth the wait. Download the "Download IC-PW1 Documents (zip)" at this web page
http://www.qsl.net/icom/manuals.html
and go to the Main Unit board (top view) 8-13 in the pdf file. This is page 56 in the adobe acrobat reader application. Diode D-18 is over on the left quarter of the picture to the right of the Connector and Xtal. If your eyes are as old as mine - you will need a magnifying glass and plenty of light. I chose to de-soldier D-18 instead of cutting it out, because the land pattern on the board picture didn't match the schematic of the board elsewhere in the same service manual. However 10 meters works great now on my PW1 amp which was purchased new in October 2003. If you can't download the zip file let me know and I will email it directly to you. Hope this helps 73 Hank N2MU ...-.- ..

Someone sent me a picture of the area where that diode is located...it's a good pic but getting to the diode requires a 500 watt lamp and a couple of magnifying glasses.

You are referring to Adam Farson's (VA7OJ/AB4OJ) Icom web page. Adam is a Retired Telecom Engineer in North Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada):

Adam regularly has information on new Icom products shown at Japan Amateur shows (Early Autumn) before introduction in late winter (US).
Several tips on Icom products and service.
