World Radio Reply

Did anyone else notice the article in this month's World Radio?

It's about Pat and the Army Chief's Net. He does a good job on running that net.

Now ... why the Army has a Chief's Net ... sounds like Navy to me. :)

I guess since Bob Sutton is Retired USAF,
he want to get the Navy involved :-)

Actually, the heads of the services are
titled Chief, as in an injun, not a
Navy CPO.

The Air Force has Chiefs also, they are Chief Master Sergeants, CMSgt (E-9), the highest enlisted grade in the AF and they are called Chief for short. If you call a Chief Master Sergeant a sergeant you’re liable to get your head ripped off, verbally if not physically.

Don't forget the E-10 Chief Master Sergeant of the
Air Force.

In the Army, Chiefs are CW-2 through CW-5.
Although you have Section Chiefs in the
FA and Comm Chiefs in the SC and on and
on. :-)

Ronnie

Unless they changed the pay grade structure since I retired the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force is still an E-9!

I'm not sure if they actually changed the pay grade,
but we referred to them as E-10 because they
have their own pay scale which is higher than E-9.

At least, the Sergeant Major of the Army does.
I would guess that would go for the USAF and
USN also.

I went to the DFAS web site and they
have foot note for E-9 that states
the base pay for the SMA, etc.

So it is still not offically E-10,
but it isn't e-9 either :-)

I hate to belabor this point Ronnie, but the top enlisted grade in each service is still an E-9. The CMSAF and the top enlisted member of the other services just get special pay and allowances due to the assignment (kind of like hostile fire pay :-). If they were to be re-assigned before retiring (highly unlikely) to a regular unit they would loose the special pay and allowances and still be an E-9.
