for many many months i have checked in to both the region and 4f2b nc traffic net, have participated in ecom drills, "well they called them drills".. so now we have shares, and fema participation.... How much actual REAL traffic have i seen, only one,and it came from the web page and was addressed to Cpl Lew Smith, camp Lejeune. that was all.... This is like sending a telegram to Mr John Smith Ny, NY.. No unit, No ssn, No other information, unable to deliver and sent service back IAW all current regs, never even heard from the originator??
sad sad sad. was a great system. And even in my own region, it is "i will send you a email" this shoule be navmarcoremailsystem, not military affiliated radio systems

If you're checking into the nets, then I assume you're a MARS member. I suggest you check into NTP-8C and review the mission of MARS. The main mission is the ECOM support of DoD and civilian government. There is VERY LITTLE moral and welfare traffic and there hasn't been for some time. Fortunately, we don't have major emergencies often that require our participation, so we train and train to be ready if one occurs. I've found out that what you get out of MARS is in direct proportion to what you put in. It's the same with ARES, RACES or any other program. Granted, we don't "save the world" on a daily basis, and that may be boring to some---but we are ready to assume our mission when were called to do so.

As a postscript to my above reply, I see from your past posts on Eham that you seem to have a BIG problem regarding MARS (or maybe you just have a BIG PROBLEM-period!) and that your latest question is just a bit of trolling. Sorry I bothered to answer you.

However i do applaud your service and your dedication.
Now for emergency communications: please report what navmarcormars did for any hurricaine in the last 20 years or so?? please please do not misunderstand my post. I have been involved and in mars for nearly forty years and hate to see what it has become. I run phone patches from "shall we say un named places" and i hear from the troops, they want a circuit to talk to loved ones, in big areas like Baghdad and Kuwait city there is sat phones and phone places but in outlying areas there is nothing...
once again i applaud your service and dedication. please do not insult mine. I have more certificates and awards for mars duty than you could imagine, and I DO NOT WANT IT TO DIE

If you have been involved in MARS for the last forty years, WHY are you asking this question? You mean after forty years YOU DON'T KNOW?

I perceive the gentleman's original comment was rhetorical, in nature. Over the years, I've been involved in Army and Air Force MARS and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, both from inside and outside the active military. More recenly I have explored the possibility of rejoining one of the MARS programs. Unfortunately, there is virtually no genuine activity to be observed. Given the plethora of other viable EMCOMM and traffic services and activities (in and out of the amateur service) available, it seems redundant to consider MARS at this time. Unfortunate as it may prove to be, the U.S. military may have outgrown the necessity for MARS programs.

Don't know if the Navy does it for
tgheir SEALS, but the Army runs a
lotta patches from deployed SF ODAs.
They're often not near all the fancy
stuff communications that conventional
forces are.
The USAF MARS runs operational and
morale patches for all service A/C
almost continuously, probably as
many as the GHFS does. Their PP
stations have DSN for officlal
calls and commercial lines for
morale calls.

K3HVG,
WB6LNH, for some reason, has an axe to grind with MARS, so take his post with a grain of salt. Do a search on his previous posts and you'll see what I mean. He really didn't want an answer to his question; he was just throwing stones. Maybe you should join MARS instead of just "exploring the possibility" of getting involved with it. You'll find a ton of negative comments about MARS, all coming from those on the outside who don't have a clue about what today's MARS is, or does. As a matter of fact, most of the negative MARS comments on Eham come from posters who don't have callsigns, so what does that tell you? One of the big problems is that a lot of folks who were involved with MARS in the old days seem to be upset because the morale and welfare traffic mission is no longer our primary, or even secondary, mission. These are probably the same people who are upset over all of the technical changes that have come about in communications in the past 50 years.
There's a lot going on with MARS today--join up and see for yourself, and don't depend on what you hear from the whiners who seem to now have taken over Eham.

Rick,
If you are so down on Navy MARS, why don't you quit? If I were your SMD, I would gladly accept your resignation! Your current attitude does far more harm that all the good you supposedly have done over the past 40 years.
