I.m with you. I can't find a regular service to modify my FT-817. I want to buy a higher power rig, but won't if I can't find someone with the skills to modify it for mars work.

I think it was in early 2008 I purchased a new Icom 746pro from Universal Radio. I provided them a copy of my MARS license and they performed the MARS mod for free. I also purchased the high stability temperature control crystal for tighter frequency stability - and Universal Radio installed it for free.

Universal did not have the absolute lowest price for the radio, but these free extras along with their very good customer service - they got my business.

Does Universal Radio still do this? I do not know. It's worth calling them when you are buying a new radio for MARS use.

I know many people who do the mod themselves, but these diodes are very small and it is possible to accidentally damage the radio if you try it yourself.
