Hi,
Does anyone have tips/hints/etc. on installing a radio in a 1998 Subaru Forester? Especially need info on the firewall and taking the console apart. If there is more I need to know - hidden wireways, etc. - then that is appreciated too. (Yes, I have the electronic Compass / Altimeter / ??? option.)
Thanks to all for what has been a great source of Amateur Radio info on many subjects. I do not know of any other site with the wealth of info provided here.
Thanks,
Vince

The first place I would head to is the service department/body shop of your local Subaru dealer. They already know where all the access holes, cable raceways, etc are located and how to take the console apart, and more importantly, how to put it back together again! :)
They can also tell you where NOT to drill holes or run cables.

A good source of installation info is Crutchfield, a car stereo mail order outfit. That have custom designed instructions for most modern cars to install car stereo equipment. I put a Kenwood TM261 in my 99 Outback and later a stereo from Crutchfield. I wish I had had the install sheet from Crutchfield when I put the ham radio in.
