VOX interrupt device? Reply

I'm looking for a device that'll let me listen to music on my mp3 with the headphones plugged in, but will switch automatically to the handheld HT when a call comes in.

You'll have to check your particular HT, but many that I've owned had low-level DC along with the audio coming out of the earphone jack. I've successfully used this as a carrier detect for TNC's and phone patches. You would have to build an interface box to do the switchover but you wouldn't have to modify the radio. Alternatively you could build an op-amp vox circuit that would be equally effective.

Something like this:

could be made to work. it senses audio output from the radio and throws a switch. A couple of dpdt relays to switch the signals, and you're in business.
