high SWR on 3 band yagi! Reply

I helped my friend today with a yagi problem.
The antenne is a 3 elements fritzel yagi for 3 bands.
His yagi showed very high SWR on 15 and 20 meter.10 meter was still good.
We disconnected the traps and cleaned them finding one of the traps having some black burn spots. After we cleaned that and connected the whole piece again the SWR was still very high both bands(20 meter improved but resonance frequency was higher!)
Replacing the balun made no differance either.
Does anyone have a suggestion what could be wrong, anyone who has experianced this as well??

I still think is one of the two traps but there is nothing to see!!

I would hook an antenna analyzer to the antenna right at the feedpoint and acertain where the resonance of the antenna falls. You need to know if the high vswr is caused by the antenna elements are too long or too short or if something else is causing the problem.

A network analyzer would give you a better idea of what's going on, but they are pricey. Perhaps someone has one which you could borrow or rent reasonably.

Thank you Steve for your info and comments.
We got two new traps the other day and antenna works great again.I gues we did not see all the damage which was done to the traps when cleaning them.
Again, thanks for the replay.
