Ray Truemner (W9ITD)

The following was submitted to our club newsletter by Cherri Riedel: "Ray Truemner, W9ITD, a long-term active ham since 1935 passed away on July 4, 2002 at the age of 96. He was a retired electrical design engineer from Heavy Duty Electric. Ray, an Eagle Scout, had been the Scout Master that opened Troop 77. In addition he had been a District Scout Commissioner for Waukesha County, a merit badge councilor and recipient of the adult Silver Beaver Award. Always active, he started bicycling in 1980(age 74) and won the Firehouse 50 in 1988-1993. He cycled across Wisconsin from Lacrosse to Port Washington and in Door County and Iowa. Ray had a web page devoted to birds and had several feeders in his yard . A past gardener he still had beautiful wildflowers, that were enjoyed by all. He was a loving, caring husband, father, and neighbor. He will be sorely missed." His profile on QRZ says, in part: "Received my first call W8NEN on January 1, 1935. My first contact was on 5 meters using a home made type 30 tube setup with an old carbon telephone mike." I will add to this that Ray was the other party in my very first QSO, in March of 2000. I would frequently hear him on local repeaters, especially late at night. He was always polite, always helpful. I will certainly miss him.
