Stewart J Baker (K4CGV)
I met Stew in 1977. I was 12 years old at the time. He opened his home, shack and heart to a young man who wanted to learn about radio. Stew was a patient teacher. I recollect calling him almost daily and inviting myself over. He never said no. His wife Maxine always had iced tea ready. Those were fun times. In those day's, the elmer tested the new novice. I passed with flying colors. To this day, I am still an active ham as is my son Saxon who was licensed at age 8. You never know the impact you may have on someones life. In this day and time it is refreshing to see people selflessly give of their time and energy to help others. This is one of the most special facets of ham radio.
I will always cherish those nights in Stews shack as he taught me not just about radio's or code, but about being patient and selfless.
Thanks Stew and Maxine,
