I only knew Merle from the short visits I had with him when I was visiting my best friend, John, W4JPL. John introduced me to Merle and his wife Wanda during one of my first visits to NC. Merle and Wanda welcomed me into their home as if I'd been a long lost friend. They were two wonderfully warm people. My heart goes out to his widow for the loss of her kind-hearted husband. He will be sorely missed.

It's been quite a few years since I had seen Merle and Wanda but, every memory is very special. I knew that Merle had been experiencing many serious health problems and have often wondered if he were OK. I lost contact several years ago but have never lost the memories of those times we visited and just had the greatest of conversations. Now that I know Merle is gone, I only feel sadness for Wanda and wish I had known before now. I also am very thankful that Merle has been part of my life. He was one of those people that are just very special.
