Richard Wehrstedt (WD4IND)

August 3, 2001

Richard was a great guy. He had gotten over some very bad health problems and was doing fine. He had accomplished many things in amateur radio and was now very interested in VHF-UHF repeaters. He was working on linking repeaters to the internet. He was originally licensed in Mobile, Alabama and held the call N5PDO after moving to the New Orleans area but returned to his original call of WD4IND via the vanity call system. Richard worked as a mobile DJ at clubs and parties and was very popular. While working at a nightclub Richard lost his life in a freak accident. A fight broke out in the parking lot. Richard and others went outside to investigate. While trying to flee, one of the fighters backed his truck over Richard and killed him. It is a sad reminder of how fragile life is. Richard will be missed by all who knew him. He was a great person to be around and always had a smile on his face. He went out of his way to help people and was a great friend to all who knew him. 73, my friend.

I was just visiting New Orleans due to my mom passing away, and thought I would try and make contact with an old friend of mine.. Richard, WD4IND. Richard knew my mom, and I wanted to let him know that she died. I was in shock to find this posting on eham that my friend had died. I guess my mom will run into Richard's souls will meet one day, while checking on our families. My sincere sympathy to Richards Family.
