William B. Simmons (K1MYF)

Sept. 12, 1910 - July 30, 2003 BROOKLYN - William B. Simmons, 92, of Creamery Brook Elderly Housing, Brooklyn, formerly of Killingly & Putnam, died Wednesday at Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam. He was the beloved husband of Angela (Ordrica) Simmons, whom he married in 1935, in New Brunswick, NJ. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, September 12, 1910, son of the late James & Marie (Hauf) Simmons. Mr. Simmons was the Department Head of the Aviation Maintenance Program at the Putnam Trade School and Harvard H. Ellis Technical School, Danielson, for over 37 years, retiring in 1976. He dedicated his career to further aviation for more than 75 years, as a licensed aircraft mechanic, teacher, and pilot and was awarded the "Charles Taylor Award" by the Federal Aviation Administration in 1990. He was a HAM radio operator, K1MYF, for more than forty years. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and visited more than 60 countries. He leaves his wife, two sons, William M. Simmons, Thompson, CT and Edward J. Simmons of Mexico City, DF; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, James E. Simmons in May 2003. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, 2 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam. Burial to follow in Grove Street Cemetery, Putnam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Salvation Army. From:
