Floyd Teetson (W5MUG)

Feb 23, 1996

Floyd Teetson, well known DXer, contester, and past Delta Division Director, helped me tremendously to acquire my first ham ticket (WN5NJZ) in 1974. At that time, you would take your novice exam under the supervision of a higher class ham. Floyd set everything up for my "big exam" in his garage hamshack in Jackson MS. I was just a kid and he was very patient with me. And he helped me get my first transmitter that I had built but couldn't get to work, a Heath DX-60B, on the air at his expense. I remember his shack, the Collins "Gold Dust Twins", KWM-2, Drake twins, TR-6. Ofcourse he let me try them out a little. Floyd loved 6 meters, and once told me he would like to do an all 6 meters field day one year. I was shocked and to hear that Floyd and his wife Winnie, WN5YTR, had been tragically murdered at his home in Louisiana in 1996. See We miss you Floyd.
