Everett "Ev" Spring (WB9UCZ)

Everett Spring was my grandfather and the reason that I got into amateur radio. He passed away this winter in his home city of East Peoria, Illinois. I will miss him. I had been into radios and electronics as a young kid. I had been studying inconsistantly for my novice license during 1975. It wasn't until my grandfather signed us up for a multi-week novice class in the fall of 1995 that I really began to make head-way. Some of my fondest memories of my grandfather were the months that he and I spent together studying for our novice licenses. We built transistor code practice oscillators and worked on antennas together. He was a great "elmer" even though he was learning it at the same time that I was. In the spring of 1976, we both took the tests and ended up with back-to-back licenses... WB9UCY and WB9UCZ. Since then, he and I have moved all over the world and the US, but we have always kept our matching calls. Over the years, he and I have always kept in touch. Ham Radio began as a way to talk together and that was the start 27 year relationship with my grandfather. Grandpa, you will be missed. Vic, WB9UCY
