Orville "Randy" Deathe (KC8RJQ)
March 28, 2004
Being a new ham and new member of the local radio club (SAARA), Randy welcomed me and became an unofficial "Elmer" to me, answering most of my questions; if he couldn't he was quick to admit it and steered me to the right person who could. My fondest memory of him was at Field Day last year. There were three of us and Randy was the first to "poop out", having been on the air most of the afternoon and into the wee hours of the morning. While he wasn't afraid to say he had enough that night, he didn't want to give up the odd chance of making distant contacts and fell asleep (more than once) at the mic.
He was very active in our ham club, helping in all of the special projects and visible at all of the events. He will be truly missed by all.
