Bernard J. "Barney" Fu ((UNKNOWN))

December 03, 1971

My Dad was evidently a past Director of the ARRL. Growing up in Brooklyn, radio was his life's passion. In the summer of 1923 at the age of 17 he ran off to sea as a telegrapher (probably on a United Fruit Company ship to Ecuador). As he finished law school in 1928 I'm sure he was among the most outraged at Armstrong's fate in the U.S. Courts. Dad too was an FM pioneer, working at Interstate Broadcasting Co. between 1939-1941, after which he served three years as communications officer on the USS Idaho (BB-42). After the war he worked for a time at RCA, later Bogen and finally GDO (an early startup in the remote-controlled garage door business). He always hated television. If anyone has any memories, I'd sure appreciate them.
