Jim Stamper (KG4LDY)

December 7, 2005

This article is written in memory of Jim Stamper, KG4LDY, who died December 7, 2005. Jim was an active ham, an active traffic handler, and a very nice man. He qualified for the Public Service Honor Roll award at least once. He was the net manager for the Virginia Sideband Net (VSBN) until his death, and he checked into the Northern Virginia Traffic Net (NVTN) several times as a liaison from the VSBN (and sometimes other nets, as well), sometimes with incoming traffic. He also took outgoing traffic (often my outgoing traffic) several times. One of the first QSL cards that I ever received was from Jim for a contact on the NVTN where he had taken two pieces of traffic that I was sending. Another time several months later, after I had taken most of his messages to Northern Virginia over a period of a few months, Jim said that I was his "Northern Virginia Outlet." He was a helpful ham, and he will definitely be missed. John, KI4JQB (an obituary can be found at www.nvdaily.com/Obituaries.bsp)

Jim's passing came as a shock to us here in Frederick County, VA. Jim always pitched in to help out our Sunday evening VA RACES net, he attended the Winchester Amateur Radio Society meetings when he could, and was involved with the installation of amateur radio equipment at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. He was a kind and gentle person who will be missed by us.

I am absolutely shocked about hearing that Jim past away, We had a terrific qso while he was using a rock mite with 400mW 2 years ago. May he rest in peace and hear many dx.... Tom, ZS2BBG
