Dick Chesney (WA3EUI)

was a very friendly OM living in Bowie, Maryland making a living as a typewriter repairman and fixing other mechanical office gadgets. He lived alone and where "normal" people would have things like furniture or carpeting, he had wonderful boxes of electronic junque, stacks of radio magazines. Instead of a sissy kitchen table, he had a heavy table loaded with classic tube gear that comprised his station. He was a frequent net control on Eastcars (7.255) and he had a killer 40 meter signal up and down the East Coast. Once a month, the local radio club gathered at Dick's QTH for important radio discussions and an adult beverage or two. I can't say that he taught me the code, helped me raise an antenna or coached me to an upgrade...but Dick Chesney was a guy that had the time to talk to goofy teenagers like me as an adult - as a peer. I heard that not many made his funeral. I had moved away from home by then and was out of state at the time & was unable to make it. I wish somehow I had. Big 73 to WA3 Echo United India...a classic.

He was a great guy. I never met him, but Qso'd a few times on E-cars. Was one of my first contacts after 30 years away form the hobby. And yes..he sure had a big signal ! 73 k3jvb
