Cliff Buttschardt (K7RR)

Cliff K7RR (Formerly W6HDO) passed away quietly in his Morro Bay home on July 30, 2006 at 9:47PM PDT. He was in the comfort of his wife Mabs at the time. Cliff is well known to many hams. Please see the complete story at: http://projectoscar.net/OSCARPedia/index.php/K7RR

I had the pleasure of meeting Cliff and his good lady Mabs when on a vacation to S Cal 10 years ago. I had spoken to Cliff on one of the OSCAR sats (either 10 or 13) and later had mentioned on the SBMS email reflector that we were planning a trip to CA and wanted to collect some parts for my interest in 10GHz. Cliff arranged to get the parts sent to his place and met me up with me in Santa Barbara. We had an unfortunate day when my wallet was stolen, Cliff generously offered to lend me some cash until I got things sorted out, though as it turned out it wasn't necessary. He was one of those guys that you immediately got on with, a great sense of humour and so helpful. I recognise that photo that Emily has posted - I took it when we visited his Morro Bay home! I put it on QRZ.COM so that folks could see what a happy fellow they were talking to. I'm really sorry to hear that Cliff has passed away, he never did get a chance to take me up on my offer of a trip to visit us in Scotland. Our thoughts are with his wife Mabs at this difficult time.

Ahhh. I think of Cliff often. I can't help but smile every time, though I miss him dearly. Having sat with him as he drew his last breath, I can say he was a fine human being right up to the end. Dit dit dit dah dit dah. Dit Dit!
