Mergens, Peter J (W6VOD)

March 2007-unk exact date - list

I was just advised that an old friend had passed away and listed in the April 2007 QST SK listing. My association with Pete and his late wife Lulu goes back to the late 1969- 1970 timeframe and inperson meetings in the early 70's. Pete retired early from a management position at Avon and invested his funds in a small company called Unique Products where he and Lulu made small accessory items for the amateur market. One item he is best know for is the Unique Wire Tuner where he made many hundreds for both the amateur market and some government agencies. A quality item using quality parts. Pete also had a second hobby which was antennas and he pursued that with his friend Merle Saxon W5CNM in setting up and testing broadcast phased arrays all over the west and southwest US. Pete will be missed. 73 old friend. Ray, W5XE

I was also surprised by the SK notice in QST. Although I had not heard Pete on 7188 for many years, I kept in contact with him via email and had not heard from him since late last year. I visited with Pete and Lulu when they lived in California. Sorry to hear he is no longer with us.

Great Guy, visited Pete once and went to Dayton Hamfest with him, had a good time and always enjoyed his stories and QSO's with him on 40SSB. He was a first class builder and antenna man. His Colorado home and antenna farm was something to see. I will miss him. Denny
