Enrique (LU3EHT)

Enrique "Tito" Moresco, a former consul general of Argentina in New Orleans, died Monday, July 17 of cancer at his home. He was 73. Mr. Moresco was born in Buenos Aires and lived in New Orleans twice during his career and at the time of his death. He entered the Argentine Foreign Service in 1949 and retired in 1993 with the rank of ambassador. He was ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago from 1958 to 1965 and held posts in New York, Baltimore and Paraguay. In New Orleans, he was deputy consul of the Consulate General from 1967 to 1972 and was consul general from 1984 to 1989, when he returned to Argentina and was director of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He returned to New Orleans in 1993. Survivors include his wife, Maria Elena Beatriz "Perla" Moresco; two sons, Francisco Alejandro and Enrique Moresco Jr.; three daughters, Teresita Elena Rivette, Susana Beatriz Garces and Maria del Carmen Ocello; a brother, Francisco E. Moresco; a sister, Susana Brandan; and nine grandchildren. Above excerpted from New Orleans Times-Picayune obituary of July 19, 2000. Enrique, LU3EHT, was an enthusiastic ham operator and an active supporter of the Greater New Orleans Amateur Radio Club. During his service as Argentine Consul General he frequently used the GNOARC club station, W5UK, to keep in contact with friends in Argentina. Following a massive earthquake which struck Mexico City in the mid-1980s, LU3EHT relayed a plea from the Mexican Consul General for W5UK to assist with disaster communications. Acting as both a ham operator and a diplomat, Enrique helped to facilitate relief efforts. New Orleans area hams who knew Enrique remember LU3EHT as a gentle, kind, and enthusiastic man who took great pleasure from his ham radio activities. He will be greatly missed.
