Everett Gnegy (KA0KSH)
I met Everett KA0KSH and his wife Peggy KA0KSI through the PHD ARA in Liberty, MO.In 1991 I headed up our Field Day operation at their 10 acre home. Each year Everett had his acreage neatly mowed and ready for the father/son church outing on Father's Day weekend and for FD the next weekend. They had a big swimming/fishing pond and each year was a big success.During the FD setup Everett came up to me and asked me to look out for his uncle W3YMW in Maryland.I wanted to tell him 'do you realize how many stations will be on the air this weekend?' but kept my mouth shut and said that we would. Two hours into Field Day we came across W3YMW on 20M phone and we let Everett talk to his uncle as long as he wanted to.I stood off a few feet shaking my head in disbelief the whole time.Afterwards he looked at me and I shook my head and all we could do was laugh as I confessed my thoughts earlier about the highly improbable chance we would get to work him.Every year at Field Day we would laugh about that day and every year I looked forward to heading up Field Day and that weekend at the Gnegy's hideaway (as they named it), the burgers (raiding the outdoor fridge at 3AM for a leftover burger or hotdog and a pop), hotdogs, the club's Saturday evening covered dish get together and the camaraderie of renewing friendships and the great weather.I remember one year he told me they had never operated during FD before but that weekend they manned one station and had the time of their life doing so.It was early in 2001-2 I found out Everett had cancer and in 2005 he passed away. I never got a chance to thank him and Peggy for all they did for FD and the hospitality they so graciously extended every year on that hot FD weekend.I look forward to FD every year and with very fond memories of those years at KA0KSH/KSI's QTH.When I go to the big hamshack in the sky I hope to meet with him and releive all those great years at FD.Thanks Everett- you are very sorely missed!!!!!!!!!!!
