Bill Sheehan (W1IXI)
February 29, 2008
Attached is one of my favorite pictures of Bill, W1IXI, from the Club archives of the Norfolk County Radio Association. It was taken in 1959 (at age 50) - just about the time I "discovered" ham radio.
Bill was voted a member of the NCRA on July 15, 1935 at the age of 26. The club had reorganized and became known as the NCRA less than 3 years earlier on November 21, 1932.
Bill served in every Club office at one time or another and currently was a member of our Advisory Board, Bill took on the task of a complete re-write of the Club's Constitution back in the late 1960's.
We often joked that Bill should write his stories and one-liners in a notebook for all to share in the years to come. Although he may not have done that - we can always rely on the fond memories and the joy that his story-telling brought to each one of us.
I wondered if we should have a day or hour of radio silence to commemorate his passing - but I think instead that I will recommit myself to being a better radio amateur and be more active on the air to celebrate how much Bill enjoyed this hobby that we all share.
73 Bill - you will be missed.
