William Eppley (W2SDB)

William “Bill” Eppley W2SDB, 93 passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Cape Canaveral Hospital. He was known throughout the area as the “Harmonica Man.” Until a fall in his home in February, 2006, which made him a permanent resident of Courtenay Springs Village, he played his harmonica at many locations including WMMB, King Center, Heidi’s Jazz Club, and various Publix supermarkets collecting money for the New Hope for Kids Foundation. He was acknowledged for collecting over $20,000 for this charity. He was also an active amateur radio operator and a member of the Indian River Amateur Radio Club. He became a licensed operator in 1931. He and his wife, Bertha, moved to Cape Canaveral in 1977 from Cherry Hill, NJ, after retiring from RCA in Camden, NJ. His wife passed away in January, 1995 suffering from Alzheimer’s. He took care of her at their Florida home. He is survived by his son, David William Eppley AF2G and his wife Michaelyn, of Voorhees, NJ and part time residents of Cape Canaveral, FL. Contributions in memory of Bill may be made to the New Hope for Kids Foundation, 1791 Fillmore Avenue, Melbourne, FL 32935-4010.
