Bruce (W9QAH)

March 31, 2008

Bruce Walther, W9QAH, was well know and very well liked by many people, amateurs and non. He'll be remembered for his encyclopedic memory, love of ham radio, love of animals and good humor. Bruce lived most of his life in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He ran a radio shop in Bloomer, WI, for many years. He attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis and later worked for ATT in Stevens Point until he retired in 1985. Bruce will be missed by his many friends, including his favorite cats and his bulldogs. 73 Bruce.

I was saddened to learn of Bruce's passing. I have many fine memories of Bruce, particularly our mutual love of the old radios. Bruce was an interesting person and a good mentor for ham radio. He will be missed by the many of us that knew him.

Bruce was a "go to" guy when you needed something fixed and a trip to his basement shack/shop was a ritual we all enjoyed. It was easy to be impressed by the parts and tubes inventory Bruce had, but Bruce was impressive in his own right. He knew what he was doing and he always took the time to teach you something about your rig. It has already been noted that Bruce was an animal lover and a trip to his QTH always involved petting one or more bulldogs and watching his cats strut on his workbench. It was hard not to laugh when Bruce would have one arm under a cat as he attempetd to solder a part. If there is any justice in this world, Bruce is now sitting in front of a bank of hollow state rigs, surrounded by the generations of dog and cat friends that preceeded him on their trip to Heaven. God Speed, Bruce. We miss you
