JOHN "JACK' T. Jones, beloved husband of Lois, loving father of Theodore "Ted' (Leesa). In lieu of flowers memorials made in his memory to American Cancer Society, 1626 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 or to Pennsylvania SPCA, 350 East Erie Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19134-9987 would be appreciated.
Biography from QRZ:
Licensed as W3NTD September 19,1947 and have been active with that call since then. Graduated Frankford High School, Philadelphia Wireless Technical Institute and Temple University. Broadcast Engineering with WCAU stations (CBS Owned & Operated) 1950-1986. In AM/FM radio was Operations Supervisor, then Director of Engineering before moving over to TVa where served as Assistant Director of Engineering with major responsiblity for all RF systems, Transmitter, Microwaves, etc. Was in charge of the FIRST Electronic News Gathering Operation (first experiments here in Philadelphia). We made it work with cumbersome, big equipment...we made it possible. Following down-sizing of CBS in 1986 was hired as a Project Manager (consultant) for CBS Records where we converted the Electrical/Mechanical facilities at Pitman record plant for manufacture of Compact Discs (CDs). When Sony purchased records became staff employee with same duty. Tiring of the 100 mile a day commute, worked for few years for Radio Shack. In Amateur Radio enjoy contesting, rag chewing and public service. Long time active member of Montgomery County RACES and currently serve as Net Control on 4th Thursday of the month. Do not have a "big" contest station, running 150 watts with a Vertical Antenna 10 thru 20 and a trapped dipole 40 & 80. None the less was #1 in EPA single op low power in 1998 and 2000 ARRL DX. Outside of radio activity am a Life Member of the local Fire Co, having been active for 25 years. A 20 year member of the Civil Service Commission, where I serve as Secretary. Married 42 years with one son who is an Aeronautical Engineer. Never could get him interested in ham radio Life member of ARRL with some field appointments: OES, OO and VE.
