Harry Hyder (W7IV)

April, 2008

Harry was a retired electrical engineer and prolific amateur radio writer. His technical articles in QST and CQ were often of projects he built and he was a superb builder. Originally licensed in 1938 as W2LIW, he moved to Arizona in 1957. We had our first QSO in 1964 and then lost contact until 1983 and had been in regular contact since. Since he lost his sight several years ago, I did his grocery shopping for him and we visited every two weeks when I would read to him from his collection of QST, R9, and Radio dating from the 1920's. He remembered most of the articles clearly and explained the technicalities to me. I certainly will miss him but have a few pieces of gear he built to remember him by. RIP W7IV!
