Russell Small (W1JJ)
November 2000
There are people and there are characters...Russ Small was a character. He was one of the most "fun loving" hams I've ever met. He always greeted people with a big smile and a healthy handshake. He was always interested in continuing an earlier conversation and rarely forgot where you left off! Russ was an avid DXer and was on the Honor Roll for both SSB and CW. He believed that the best way to stay current with technology, was to homebrew when possible. He was always anxious to fix everyone's radio when broken and could diagnose to the chip level. Russ leaves his wife, Thelma, three married daughters and a bunch of loving grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

I knew Rusty from the GERATOL Net in the early 90's. Just from his voice one could tell he was a friendly guy, a good op, and
well respected.
