E. John Dudek (KB6CU (FORMERLY WB6IKI))
July 12, 2000
John Dudek lived in Apache Junction, AZ, and passed away in hospice in Phoenix. He is survived by his xyl, Connie, children and grandchildren.
John recently applied for his old KB6CU callsign. He was on Canton Island in the 70's. He held VR1AC at the same time/location and counted for British Phoenix. His first DX call was KX6JD on Eniwetok in the 60's. He was an operator at HZ1AB in the 70's.
John served in the Navy during WWII and the California Air National Guard at the old Oxnard AFB. He was a firefighter, fire chief and later a safety engineer. He worked for several defense contractors including Northrop, Holmes & Narver, etc. He did a tour in Vietnam as a logistics manager for an Army contractor.
Although not a DXer, John served up many QSO's from the Pacific and made lots of hams happy with those KB6, VR1 and KX6 callsigns.
