Olympia man dies in crash near Kelso Staff The Olympian Published: November 27, 2001 OLYMPIAN STAFF, NEWS REPORTS COWLITZ COUNTY - An Olympia man died late Sunday night in a five-vehicle wreck on Interstate 5 north of Kelso, Washington State Patrol troopers reported. Four cars and a tractor-trailer were involved in the crash on I-5, and traffic was detoured well into the Monday morning commute, dispatchers said. Ten people were injured, including three who were flown to hospitals in Portland. According to a patrol report, a 1988 Ford Taurus driven by Keith M. Anderson, 53, of Lacey spun out on the wet road and was hit by a van and a third car. The third car then was hit by a fourth car and the truck. All the vehicles were northbound. The van driver, Robert P. McAvoy, 39, of Olympia, died in an air ambulance, the report said. Three passengers in McAvoy's 1998 Ford van were injured. Jennifer McAvoy, 22, and a 2-year-old girl were taken to a Longview hospital. A 7-month-old girl was flown to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland.
