Robert R. Funck, KB5GQ, SK: A well-known Amateur Radio personality in the
New Orleans area, Bob Funck, KB5GQ, of La Place, Louisiana, died August 8.
He was 59. A life member of the ARRL, Funck was a fixture on local repeaters
and at hamfests throughout the Gulf South. He had an abiding interest in
VHF, was involved in repeater coordination and served as a long-time
representative to the Louisiana Council of Amateur Radio Clubs, the
frequency-coordination entity in Louisiana. Funck was instrumental in
developing the Amateur Radio exhibit for the Louisiana World's Fair in 1984.

Bob was very special to me. He was my best friend for the past 14 years.
Bob was one of those special people who never met a stranger. He was well known at every ham gathering from Dallas to Birmingham; Memphis to New Orleans. He was well respected everywhere.
Bob promoted amateur radio every chance he got and was responsible for several folks getting their licenses.
His death leaves a big gap in the Louisiana Coucil, the clubs in South Louisiana, and my life.
