Shai W1NHJ helped me get the DX bug as a new ham in 1977, he loved to work CW. After he retired to a condo in FL he worked counties from his car. Shailer A. Herrick Obituaries and death notices, May 7, 2010 Published: Friday, May 07, 2010 Shailer A. Herrick, 87, of Hudson, Fla., and formerly of Keene, died peacefully April 12, 2010, at Hernando-Pasco Hospice in Hudson. Mr. Herrick was a U.S. Army veteran and ham radio operator. He left Cheshire County in 1987, after retiring from American Optical. Mr. Herrick enjoyed playing cards, dancing, caroling with the Beacon Woods Carolers and sang in the church choir for most of his life. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Elli Herrick of Hudson; three children, John Herrick of Chesterfield, Mark Herrick of Keene and Diane of New Port Richey, Fla.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Mr. Herrick’s memory to Hernando-Pasco Hospice. Dobies Funeral Home of Hudson, Fla., was in charge of arrangements (
