Joe Barnes (K5FZH)
Dec.3,2000
Joe and I became good friends via the Popular Electronics Magazine penpals service back in the early 60s, Joe lived in Kilgore Texas at this time and was very active in CAP as I was active in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets we had another common interest. Time passed and we lost contact, during the 60s and finally got together again when 10 meters was active. We had weekly skeds on 28.430. Joe had become a high school teacher in El Paso Tx, and I was working for General Moters in St.Catharines, Ont. We both had married and had children, again another common interest, my wife Elaine was a RN in the delivery room as was Joes wife Margrett . Joe became very ill with cancer in 1999 and passed away in Dec, 3,2000. I regret very much that I didnt take the time to visit with Joe and his family before his passing, his memeory will always be with me though and our great QSOs on amateur radio, especially when Joe and his family went hiking and camping around the southwest of the USA with his handy 10 meter moblie.
